Properties and Uses

Lemon Myrtle is an antiseptic, anti-viral, anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, calmative, sedative and corrective. The plant is an astringent (causing the contraction of skin cells and other body tissues) with antioxidant and antigenotoxic activities that may be chemo-preventative. The essential oil contains alpha-pinene, cineole and myrtenol and is used for asthma coughs, sore throats, common cold, influenza, bronchitis, indigestion, molluscum contagiosum (a viral infection of the skin or occasionally of the mucous membranes), warts and herpes simplex. Eucalyptus has anti-inflammatory and analgesic qualities; it stimulates mental activity, strengthens the immune system, treats lice and skin infections, regulates blood sugar, cures nasal congestion, bronchitis and sinusitis. Eucalyptus is often applied topically to treat skin conditions. Source details.

Activated charcoal draws out impurities in the skin resulting in smooth, clear, radiant and healthy skin. It is ideal for easily irritated or sensitive skin. Activated Charcoal will eliminate acne, bumps and blackheads, it is a detox for the skin and will reduce pigmentation disorders and fight odours. Bentonite calcium clay is very high in silica. It nourishes, moisturises and balances all types of skin complexions. It is the top choice for dry skin and indicated for psoriasis and dermatitis.

Goat’s milk is wonderful for people with dry or sensitive skin or conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. It is also perfect for healthy skin that wants to stay that way. Goat’s milk contains many vitamins, but is particularly high in Vitamin A, which is necessary to repair damaged skin tissue. Vitamin A in Goat’s milk is also known to reduce lines, wrinkles and control acne. Other vitamins present in Goat’s milk are B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9 and B12. The B vitamins are water soluble and play an important role in cell metabolism in the body, including regulating metabolism, maintaining healthy skin and muscle tone, enhancing the immune and nervous system function and promoting cell growth.

Goat's milk also contains vitamin C, D, E and K. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which is probably the most well-known of the antioxidants, reduces free radicals in the body.  Vitamin D is most noted for its role in promoting calcium absorption. Small amounts of vitamin E is also found in Goat’s milk and shares the status of vitamin C as another of the better known antioxidants, helping to prevent oxidative damage to cells and preventing cancer. Lastly, vitamin K which is best known as a blood-clotting agent and assists with a multitude of conditions; stretch marks, spider veins, scars, dark spots and stubborn circles under the eyes, as well as wounds and bruises.

Author's Comments

This is a favourite amongst tradesmen and those that work outdoors. Apart from its exfoliating properties such as bentonite clay that replaces lost nutrients in the body, it is also a top Body Bar for heat rash, prickly heat, candida and all those fungal infections that just appear overnight! Due to our tropical climate, and change of seasons in some States, our skin needs to 'catch-up' with what the weather decides to do and in many cases, it rebels by breaking out. Outdoor workers who wear protective clothing will know that the clothing does not 'breathe' as well as it should, the skin, therefore, needs some help. Another favourite Body Bar loved by all and especially men.
