A member of the daisy family, mugwort, or Artemisia vulgaris, is a native to Asia and Europe. Our Mugwort shown is grown and harvested on our property. It can reach up to 6 feet in height and has yellow or reddish-brown flowers in the summer. Its leaves have a silvery fuzz on their underside and has a sage-like smell and slightly bitter taste. In the past, mugwort was revered by Roman soldiers who placed mugwort in their sandals before marching to ward off fatigue.
In traditional medicine, mugwort or wormwood is used in a process called Moxibustion which has been practiced for more than 3,000 years in China, and advocates claim that it can strengthen and warm your blood and life energy, and treat inflammation in the body. Moxibustion smoke may improve the autonomic nervous system and induce a relaxing effect on the body. This brew of leaves is designed to stimulate the liver and act as a digestive aid. This herb can be effective for uncontrollable shaking, nervousness, insomnia, menstrual cramps, spurs, corns, fatigue, depression, irritability, and anxiety.
